Microsoft is testing an instant hotspot feature in Windows 11 Insider builds. Your smartphone’s hotspot functionality can be activated from Windows without having to reach for the phone itself.

Smartphone in the list of wifi networks.

For now it only works with Samsung devices (with One UI 4.1.1 or higher) and Link To Windows app must be installed. The computer itself must have a WiFi and Bluetooth adapter and the Phone Link desktop app.

After going through a setup in the Phone Link desktop app, your phone will be in the list of available Wi-Fi networks in Windows. Clicking “Connect” will automatically activate the hotspot function on your phone.

The feature will only be tested on Insider versions for now. It is not yet clear whether it will eventually become available to all Windows users and whether smartphones from other manufacturers will be supported as well.
